Ecologically Sound Pest Control Methodology
There has been a lot of talk about lowering the impact of pest control in the last few years. That talk has certainly ratcheted up in the last few months, for that reason, Southwest Exterminators is happy to announce its full implementation of the PerimeterPLUS pest control solution. Its foundational methodology is found in the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). So what is IPM and how can it positively affect your pest control experience?
Principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is one of the most discussed, yet least understood aspects of pest management. It is a term used by professionals in the pest control industry as well as people who oppose the use of pesticides. Misinformed persons have even alleged that IPM means not utilizing pesticide technology at all. As I will help explain today, that is not at all true.
IPM is the method that Southwest Exterminators uses to accomplish an integrated approach to pest control. The Southwest Exterminators system combines many methods of pest suppression to provide superior pest protection. This process requires our pest control specialists and you, the client, to work together as a team to achieve a mutual goal, being pest free! Both our technicians and you incorporate measures such as improved sanitation, structural modifications, and proper storage practices to alter the environment making it unsuitable for pest infestation. The result is superior pest control achieved by the application of fewer pesticides in and around your home.
There are 5 steps to Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Each one is an equally important step in the process.
5 Steps to IPM
- Inspection of the premises
- Identification of pests, pest damage, or pest potential
- Determination of the extent of the pest infestation
- Application of chemical remediation (pesticides) as appropriate
- Evaluation of application results
In addition, there are four basic control measures utilized in IPM programs.
4 Control Measures
- Sanitation (Ensuring your home is cleaned and disinfected routinely)
- Mechanical exclusion (pest proofing services such as Plug-N-Protect)
- Biological control agents (using beneficial insects such as Lady Bugs to biologically control pests)
- Application of insecticides
Southwest Exterminators’ IPM methodology of reducing the insecticides in your home while providing superior pest control solutions meets all of these factors to suppress pest populations.
