Are Southwest pest control specialists licensed? How would I know?
All of our pest control specialists are licensed with the state of Utah and our company has been verified by the NPMA (National Pest Management Association), a national organization designed to promote professionalism and exceptional customer service in the pest control industry. A licensed specialist has to demonstrate a knowledge of pest biology, pesticide safety, rules and regulations, as well as proper sanitation. Furthermore, at Southwest Exterminators we only accept an 80% or better on all state and in-house exams, which is greater than state requirements. Our specialists also continually educate themselves, ensureing they are always on the cutting edge. You will know your specialist is of the highest caliber by checking the Utah State Agricultural Department website. All licensed technicians are posted with the licenses they have attained.
Why should I hire Southwest Exterminators instead of attempting to control my own pest problems?
You wouldn’t drill your own cavity, nor would you wire your own home. Just the same, you shouldn’t attempt to control pests on your own. The EPA registered products and the expertise offered by Southwest Exterminators’ pest control specialists exceed what a homeowner could accomplish on their own. We are the pest control experts, allow us to help.
Do you take care of skunks?
Yes. Southwest Exterminators will humanly catch and release skunks away from human habitation as long as they are not carrying any diseases which could affect other wildlife.
Are there brown recluse spiders in Utah?
The easy answer is absolutely not. This is not their preferred habitat. As of 2003 only a handful of brown recluse spiders have been found in the state of Utah, all were imported from other areas.
I am allergic to bees and there are hundreds if not thousands on my property, what now?
This sounds like a swarm. Swarms, contrary to what Hollywood would have you believe, are harmless if left alone. Bees will, when provoked, defend their hive, young, and food supply. Swarming bees do not have a hive, young or food storage to defend because they have left their old hive to find a new home. Therefore, if you see a large mass of bees, leave them alone, they will be gone soon. If you still have concerns call our office, we have humane ways to get the bees to dissipate.
What is your policy on honey bees?
We will not knowingly treat, impair, or otherwise harm any honey bees. Bees are a valuable partner in agriculture and our economy, not to mention we live in the beehive state. Southwest will not treat flowering plants or areas that bees are known to frequent. If you have a bee hive on or near your property we will humanly remove the hive and deliver it to a licensed bee keeper.
I heard you can eliminate German Cockroaches in one visit, how can you do this?
We deploy a five step proprietary process to fully eliminate German cockroaches in one visit. This process is a great benefit to restaurants, medical facilities, and residential locations that need immediate results.
Every year I get ants in my kitchen between spring and mid-summer, what can be done?
Call Southwest Exterminators, we will track down the entry points and bar future entry by custom designing a Plug-N-Protect service specifically for your home.
Is there anything I can use on ants inside my home before your pest control specialist comes for a treatment?
You can use soap and water or a wet rag for ants on your counter. Using household cleaners and over-the-counter- insecticides can complicate control. Please ask the office or your specialist before applying any chemical yourself.
Will you perform termite inspections?
Our specialists are trained and licensed to perform all types of WDO (wood destroying organisms) inspections to include termites, rot, mold, and carpenter ants. We can fill out all necessary government documentation for FHA or VA loans. Look into our PerimeterPLUS service plans which include an annual termite inspection at no additional cost.
Are there termites in Utah?
Unfortunately yes. Some may believe that since we live in the desert we do not have termites but that would be mistake. Every year many homeowners are informed that termites are feasting on their largest asset. Southwest has cutting edge technology to combat this household nemesis.
I heard bed bugs are immune to pesticide?
This is a tricky one, are they immune, no; are they building resistance to commonly used pesticides, yes. The bed bug samples of the 1940’s had two amino acids which detoxified itself (similar to our liver). Some of today’s samples are found with five amino acids. They are evolving a resistance to our products. That is why Southwest Exterminators does not rely on insecticides for bed bug control. We will customize an advanced treatment method for your home. We will perform an inspection and outline an action plan specifically for your situation.
How long does your treatment last?
This is the golden question and unfortunately there is no easy answer. Our products are guaranteed at thirty days, lethal at sixty days, and residual at ninety days. Certain environments, pest pressures, and times of the year may necessitate a more frequent service. Your on-site pest control specialist will be able to explain what service schedule would be best for your home and budget.
How can you control pests inside my home if you service outside?
On the initial service we will recommend that the interior of your home be treated. Once all the interior pests have been eliminated our mission is to prevent any new pests from gaining entry by providing a Plug-N-Protect service to exclude pest entry. Concentrating our service on the exterior of your home controls the pests before they become a home infesting nuisance.
What is the Plug-N-Protect service?
The Plug-N-Protect service is a customized pest proofing service exclusively offered by Southwest Exterminators. We will perform a detailed inspection and recommend pest proofing measures. In most cases our technicians will be able to take care of the pest proofing measures.
Why do people call you the pest control experts of Utah?
We have been inspected, checked, and verified by an organization called Ask the Experts. We have been thoroughly vetted to insure we truly are experts in our field of expertise. You should feel confident with us taking care of your pest issues because we are the pest control experts of Utah. Not to mention we also enjoy reading books on bugs, watching shows on bug, and keeping bugs as pets.
If my home is treated right before it rains will the treatment wash way?
Application made to pest breeding and hiding spots will not wash away. Typically these areas are not in places which rain contacts. Once our spray has dried it will be effective even if it rains. Think of it this way, you would not want a product that washes away after your lawn sprinklers turn on. Our products are designed and rated for use in the conditions of the southern Utah environment.
What if I touch a treated area while it is still wet?
If you come in contact with one of our products before it dries, simply wash with warm water and soap. Once the treatment area is dry you can contact the surface without worry.
What’s the difference between traditional pest control and Southwest’s PerimeterPLUS services?
Traditional pest control relies on a technician indiscriminately applying pesticides inside your home, whether or not it is needed. This is a reactive approach to pest control. The mission is to treat any area that a pest might travel. To be successful, a pest must come in direct contact with the product. Southwest’s PerimeterPLUS is a proactive approach to pest control. We will concentrates on keeping pests from getting inside in the first place by taking preventive, exclusionary measures like caulking, sealing doorways, and eliminating entry points. Our treatments center on likely entry routes and insect breeding sites. In the end, a PerimeterPLUS service is more effective and economical than traditional pest control. On top of all that it is more environmentally minded as well.
Are the products you use safe for my children and pets?
The manner in which Southwest applies the products, the places where the products are applied, and the attention to safety mean our treatments are safe once the service has been completed and the products have dried.
What is personalized pest control?
Traditional pest control consists of a reactive cookie-cutter approach to pest control. Each home is treated the same way with the same product in the same amount of time. We will personalize a proactive approach to pest control. We will perform a detailed inspection, custom design an action plan to rid your home of pests, and deploy a variety of technology to offer the best pest control results around.
